Forest Bathing with a Twist

Price:$35
Teacher:Joan Long

Forest Bathing is a term derived and translated from a Japanese practice called shinrin-yoku. Shinrin in Japanese means “forest,” and yoku means “bath”. So, the term literally means bathing in a forest atmosphere or taking in the forest through your senses. Research has shown that Forest Bathing lowers stress hormone levels, heart rate, and blood pressure as well as boosts the immune system, increases happiness, unleashes creativity, and accelerates recovery from illness.

In addition to taking the forest in through your senses for improved health and well-being, Forest Bathing with a Twist involves experiencing and getting to know the forest and yourself on other levels.

Often, when we visit a forest, we are simply taking a walk in the woods for exercise with people or, perhaps, the family dog. These activities are helpful and important. Yet, how often do you really pay attention to the countless life forms that make up the forest allowing her to continue to thrive and survive?

If we focus on anything, it is usually trees. We tend to look at the forest without really seeing. Few of us ever think to change up the lens of how we experience a forest and, therefore, miss the many wonderful natural stories that are unfolding just beyond our feet, right above our heads, and in plain view. Paying closer attention forces us to slow down, take in the incredible diversity, and develop a greater appreciation and gratitude for the natural world which sustains us.

In this class, you will be presented with a variety of activities and contemplations that awaken your curiosity, expand your senses, and feed your soul.
